What does an AI answer when they look for you?
An illustrative example, not a real screenshot: this is how a generative answer is built and how its sources are cited. Our job is to get your brand in there.

How do we get AI assistants to cite you?
GEO (generative engine optimisation) is the set of techniques that get a brand cited as a source inside the answers given by AI assistants: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot and Google's generative answers (AI Overviews and AI Mode). At Somia Digital we do GEO for businesses in Girona, Barcelona and the Costa Brava with a clear methodology: citability audit, answer-shaped content, structured data and entities, access for AI crawlers, brand authority and monthly citation tracking.
01
Citability audit
We ask the assistants what your customers would ask and record what they answer: which brands they cite, which sources they trust and what they say (or don't say) about you. That gives us the real starting point, with the answers collected and a list of gaps to fill.
- Questions from your sector
- Citation map
- Competitors cited
02
Answer-shaped content
We rewrite and extend your pages so they hold answers a model can quote without having to interpret you: question-shaped headings, a clear definition in the first paragraph, concrete data and FAQs. The same text also performs better in classic search.
- Question-shaped H2s
- Definition up front
- FAQs
03
Structured data and entities
We mark up your site with JSON-LD (Organization, Service, FAQPage, LocalBusiness) and connect the nodes to each other so models understand beyond doubt who you are, what you do and where. We also check that your name, address and phone are identical everywhere you appear.
- JSON-LD
- Schema.org
- Consistent business data
04
llms.txt and AI crawler access
We publish an llms.txt file with a summary of your business, your services and the key links, and we review robots.txt and the server so the assistants' crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended…) can read you. If you'd rather block some of them, we set that up too.
- llms.txt
- robots.txt
- AI crawlers
05
Authority and mentions
Models trust brands that other sources talk about. We work on mentions where they count: industry directories and associations, local press, genuine customer reviews and, when the business warrants it, well-documented presence on Wikipedia and Wikidata.
- Local press
- Industry directories
- Genuine reviews
- Wikidata
06
Citation monitoring
Every month we re-run the key questions across the different assistants and tell you whether they cite you, how they describe you and who has got ahead of you. That's how we adjust the plan: GEO is a living process, not a one-off delivery.
- Monthly report
- Engine comparison
- Continuous iteration
We work with the latest technologies to build timeless websites.
Why does GEO matter in 2026?
Search is now a conversation
Plenty of people no longer type keywords: they ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity and read the answer. And Google itself now answers with AI at the very top of its results (AI Overviews) and in AI Mode.
The answer decides before the click
When the assistant recommends two or three brands, the choice is almost made. If you're not there, you're not competing: you don't even know you've lost that customer.
There's still room in your area
In most local sectors across Girona, Barcelona and the Costa Brava, few businesses are working on GEO yet. Whoever starts now stands a strong chance of becoming the source the models end up citing.
How does GEO relate to SEO?
GEO doesn't replace SEO: it builds on it. Assistants that search live read the same pages Google does, so a fast, crawlable site with useful content is the foundation of both. That's why we work on them together, with the same team and a single plan.
And it isn't theory: this very website is already built to be cited.

GEO is the optimisation of a brand and its website so AI assistants cite it as a source when they answer a question. Unlike classic SEO, you are not competing for a position in a list of links: you are competing to be part of the answer the user reads.
SEO is about being found in the list of results; GEO is about being cited inside the answer. They share much of the work (useful content, a fast crawlable site, brand authority), but GEO adds answer formatting, connected structured data, llms.txt and citation tracking. They don't replace each other: GEO builds on good SEO, which is why we do both together — you can see how on our SEO service page.
The technical and content work takes weeks, but each engine refreshes its knowledge at its own pace: assistants that search live (Perplexity, ChatGPT with search, Google's AI answers) react sooner; those answering from memory take longer. We usually start seeing new citations between the second and fourth month.
With a panel of real questions from your sector that we re-run monthly across the different assistants: we measure how often you are cited, where in the answer, how you are described and who appears instead of you. We also watch referral traffic coming from AI domains and their crawlers' hits on your server.
No. We start with the pages that already carry value: services, prices, FAQs and the pages explaining what you do. Often it is enough to reorganise what is already there (question-shaped headings, definition first) and add the missing markup. If the technical foundations can't support it, we'll tell you before we start, not halfway through.
Yes, and there is often less competition than in classic SEO. When someone asks an AI about a professional in Girona or on the Costa Brava, the model leans on a handful of reliable local sources. Being one of them, with consistent data and genuine reviews, is far more achievable than climbing to Google's first page for a generic keyword.
The citability audit, including the report and a prioritised action plan, starts at €495. Ongoing work (implementation, content, mentions and the monthly citation report) is quoted to fit your scope and sector, with a fixed written price and no long lock-ins. If we already handle your SEO, GEO folds into it and we adjust the quote accordingly.
No, and be wary of anyone who does: as with Google rankings, the final decision is the model's. What we do guarantee is the work: making you the easiest source to cite in your sector, with correct data, clear answers and real authority — and measuring it every month so you can check.
