A town that lives off its harbour
Fishing, commerce and tourism are the three pillars of the local economy, and all three run through the harbour. The fleet lands its catch at the fish market every day, and the red prawn is sold only at the local auction. The town council and the fishermen's guild promote the Gamba de Palamós guarantee mark, which certifies origin and traceability, and in 2013 the town approved a prawn management plan that was a first in the Mediterranean.
